ChessGym ("we", "our", or "the app") is a chess training application built by Paul Mihai Craciunas. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we handle it. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our practices.

When you use ChessGym, we may collect the following information:
Account information: If you sign in with Google or email, we store your user ID, display name, and authentication provider. We do not store your password — authentication is handled securely by Firebase Authentication.
Gameplay data: Your puzzle ratings, game statistics, achievements, and training progress are stored to provide a personalized experience.
Device information: A device identifier is stored to associate your account with your device.
Crash reports: We use Firebase Crashlytics to collect anonymous crash reports, which help us identify and fix bugs. These reports may include device model, OS version, and stack traces. They do not contain personal information.
3. Data We Do Not Collect
We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, browsing history, or any data unrelated to the app's functionality. We do not serve ads and do not share your data with advertising networks.
4. How We Use Your Data
Your data is used solely to provide and improve the ChessGym experience:
— To save your progress and ratings across sessions
— To compute achievement statistics and leaderboards
— To identify and fix crashes and bugs
— To improve the app based on aggregated, anonymized usage patterns
5. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored in Google Cloud Firestore and protected by Firebase security rules. All communication between the app and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS. We follow industry-standard practices to protect your information.
6. Third-Party Services
ChessGym uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:
Firebase Authentication — for secure sign-in
Cloud Firestore — for data storage
Firebase Crashlytics — for crash reporting
7. Data Retention and Deletion
Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us at the email below. Upon request, we will delete your data from our servers within 30 days.
8. Children's Privacy
ChessGym is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
